IN PERSON & PARTICIPATIVE: Jumpstart your literature review writing (Humanities and Social Sciences)

About this workshop

Whether you've just registered, are starting out, haven't written a word yet, or want to know more about literature reviews, students at any stage of their writing are welcome to our in-person workshop.

Input on what a literature review is and how to decide what sort of one to construct within your thesis, will be given.

You will be guided in the use of the Scopus search tool to find peer reviewed articles for your literature review.  Students are then facilitated and guided to start writing the review.  The writing will raise issues and questions and the facilitator will assist students with these to develop confidence in writing the literature review.

There will be a brief overview of some techniques and tools for mapping the “shape” of the literature – finding out when your topic was written about and how the literature developed over time, in what countries or disciplines – and identifying the most highly cited or most prolific writers on your topic and the key journals discussing that topic.  This knowledge will help you tell the story of the development of literature on this topic.

* Due to UCT being a contact university and with Covid restrictions easing, there is an in person and online option for this particular workshop in semester 2.  Please ensure that are registered for the one you wish to attend.
