Jumpstart your literature review writing in under 3 hours in an evening session!

Work interactively with an academic mentor, using the Zoom online platform on Vula, and start writing your thesis/proposal literature review.

Please note: This is a evening session - 20h00-23h00; if you prefer a morning time slot (10h00-13h00) book here for that session.

Minimum entrance requirement:

- Thesis topic/direction/keywords/argument & assumptions
- Electronic & downloaded copies of peer reviewed key texts for review or printed out ones.

Content:

Input, tables and notes on what a literature review is, and how to decide what sort of one to construct, depending on your discipline. Once this input it given, students are facilitated and guided to write the headings related to this into a file, and to start writing their review, depending where they are in the process: argument writing, organising what's been read, structuring the review itself.

Notes on possible structures, organising table structures, and search tool files plus the powerpoint, will all be made available to those who have signed up - via the chat function. 

There will be a brief overview of some techniques and tools for mapping the “shape” of the literature – finding out when your topic was written about and how the literature developed over time, in what countries or disciplines – and identifying the most highly cited or most prolific writers on your topic and the key journals discussing that topic. This knowledge will help you tell the story of the development of literature on this topic.

Students are facilitated and guided to write the headings related to this into a file, and to start writing. The writing will raise issues and questions. The facilitator will assist students with the actual writing, in the session.

While no discipline related content will be commented upon, specific feedback may be given personally on literature review writing done during this three hour online workshop, where appropriate.
