*ONLINE* How to read academic articles: for Humanities students and qualitative researchers

Please note: this workshop is unable to address each specific discipline's peer reviewed literature reading skills.

This workshop is open to all disciplines, and is focused on prose written academic peer reviewed articles, mainly used in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Students from other disciplines that require skills in reading of articles that use qualitative research arguments, are welcome. Students who are required to identify arguments in their reading will benefit from this interactive workshop.

This is an online, interactive and practical workshop for students wanting to fine tune their academic article reading skills.  You will be given feedback on your questions and reading issues.

In this workshop you are asked to bring along:-

  1. One peer reviewed academic article/a book chapter - an electronic or printed version;
  2. Highlighters and pencil crayons, that are useful if you are working with a printed version of an article or chapter at home.

We'll start with input on how to read an academic article, for two purposes:-

  1. a quick assessment for your literature review;
  2. an assessment on an article or book for reading and using in your thesis.

After the input on how to do this, you will have the opportunity to read the article you have brought with you to the online workshop, in real time, with guidance from the facilitator, to assist you where you have any problems in reading, get stuck or want to ask questions.
