IN PERSON: Grant Writing for Postdocs: Beyond the Postdoc

About the workshop

What comes next? How do you navigate your way from Postdoc to Principal Investigator (PI)? How do you run your own research programme? What is research for impact? How do you know what funders are looking for in winning proposals?

We address all these and more in our BEYOND THE POSTDOC session. It will be informative, engaging and set you up with valuable information and a set of tools to plan your path beyond your postdoctoral fellowship with confidence.

Our discussion points will include:

  • Introduction
  • Shifting from a Postdoc to PI Mindset
  • Navigating the Gap between a Postdoc and Academic Post
  • Navigating the Funding Landscape
  • Developing an Independent Research Program
  • Going Beyond Academic Metrics
  • Building a Professional Network
  • Developing Leadership and Management Skills
  • Conducting Independent Research as a Business
  • Conclusion (including where support is available for each step on the journey)

NB: If you wish to attend an in person workshop and have disability access requirements, please email disabilityservice@uct.ac.za and CC pgdevelopment@uct.ac.za to arrange the appropriate services, where available.
