Transitioning successfully from a post-graduate student to a post-doc or an academic post requires new skills, including how to apply for funding. Topics to be covered are:
- Grant seeking and winning as a key activity for academics and researchers (including thinking strategically about grant seeking NOW at the final-year PhD stage)
- Understanding the funding landscape and differences between the types of grants
- How to develop grant-writing skills
- What makes a good fellowship application
- Building a network
- Finding a good mentor
- Career planning
- Resources and tools
The workshop will also include a panel of PhD graduates who will share their own journeys and offer advice towards forging a post-PhD career path, including their experience of the grant-seeking and writing process.
