The aim of the presentation by Maggie Mills is to provide insights on the art of scholarly publishing, free online tools available via the American Chemical Society website to help structure and write your academic research, and top tips towards enabling publishing success in the high-quality ACS environmental journals.
Brief Workshop of Flash Talks with Faculty Members at UCT: Environmental Science and Technology Research Activities (University of Cape Town)
Faculty members working in the environmental science and technology area would provide a short (10 minute) overview of their research projects to provide insights on the activities of the department, the environmental challenges the researchers are focused on, and identify future research needs. This allows for an exchange of ideas, creates networking opportunities, and identifies common research interests and potential future international research opportunities.

Rajesh is responsible for developing and managing ACS’ strategic objectives and activities to engage and develop the chemical sciences community across different regions – Asia Pacific, South Asia, Middle-East, Africa and Latin America regions. Earlier, Rajesh was Head of Public Policy, Government Affairs and Engagement, India and South Asia at the UK-based Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and set up an RSC office in India. He has also worked as a Senior Science and Innovation Advisor at the British High Commission in India to support UK-India research collaborations. Rajesh was a technology and business journalist for The Week - a national magazine, and Deccan Herald - a leading newspaper in Bangalore. He is recipient of Rolls Royce-Chevening Research, Science and Innovation Leadership Fellowship in 2018.

Preparation for the workshop

Presentations by Prof Brooks and Dr Mills: Come with an open mind and lots of questions!
Workshop with flash talks by faculty: Power point presentation (5-10 slides) providing a short overview of their personal research activities (10 minutes each) |
Level of participation at the workshop
|
Presentations by Prof Brooks and Dr Mills: listening during presentations and actively asking questions. Informal discussion with presenters afterwards over refreshments so presenters can have an opportunity to talk informally with students about their research work and interests.
Workshop with flash talks by faculty: Individual presentations by faculty and time for discussion and questions at the end of each presentation to fully understand and explore the research work and challenges the research is trying to address.
