IN PERSON: Research Misconduct and Questionable Research Practices

About this workshop

This workshop will give you a brief overview of different types of research misconduct (RM) and questionable research practices (QRPs). It will also empower you with tools for identifying and avoiding QRPs and approaches to take when confronting RM.

By participating in this workshop you will empower yourself with both knowledge and tools that you can utilise to strengthen your own research and to develop and deliver responsible research projects.

This is the second in a 3-part workshop series which we encourage you to take as a complete set.

Preparation for the workshop

Attendees must complete Module 2 of the ORI’s online RCR training programme; available via www.successfactors.uct.ac.za.

Participants should be prepared to actively engage in collaborative activities via a range of tools (e.g., Mentimeter or post-its and flipcharts) and should bring a device that enables use of these tools during the seminar (e.g. laptop or smart phone). Physical stationery will be supplied for some activities.

What previous attendees have said about this workshop:

  • "Keep up the good work, this is best for me as I am not in the country and there are not much (sic) classes that teach this. This provides me with more items to understand the research and forming a research community through the breakout rooms."
  • "I am grateful to attend such a wonderful and interactive training."
