Support the UCT Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition as a Virtual Audience Member!
Join the audience as the 3MT entrants battle it out against friends and colleagues ONLINE for prizes and bragging rights, as they demonstrate the art of presenting their research in a compelling and clear way. (Scroll down for the draft programme listing the entrants and approximate category presentation time slots.)
The 3MT competition is an international concept and organisation that challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research findings, so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience – i.e. in 3 minutes!
Entrants will compete in the following categories and a Winner and Runner-up will be chosen in each category:
Category |
Category presentation slot |
Masters SSH (Social Sciences & Humanities)* |
Approximately 09h00 to 10h00** |
Masters STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)* |
Approximately 10h00 to 10h50** |
PhD SSH (Social Sciences & Humanities)* |
Approximately 10h50 to 11h45** |
PhD STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)* |
Approximately 11h45 to 13h35** |
* STEM includes all the natural and physical sciences including health sciences, and SSH generally includes Law and Commerce
** We will attempt to adhere to these times as best as possible, depending on technical factors.
The winners in the PhD SSH and PhD STEM categories will go on to participate in the National 3MT Competition hosted by the University of the Free State (UFS) on Friday, the 27th of October 2023. Details to join the audience will follow after the UCT 3MT competition.
The judges decision is final and they reserve the right to withhold a category prize, should the judging criteria not be met by any of the competitors within that category.
