About this workshop

Reading for research and research for reading is a fundamental preoccupation of all research students.  Mastering the overwhelm and flood of literature surrounding engaging with academic texts requires knowledge of strategies and steps in reading for purpose.  This online workshop aims to enable how to work with sources providing methods, techniques, and strategies for strategic reading.  The workshop includes ways in which to integrate credible sources when reading for research.  It aims to also provide the what and why of referencing.

About the presenter

Ms Desireé Moodley, Writing Consultant, CHED

Desireé Moodley is a lecturer, and academic writing and research consultant.  She has worked both locally and internationally with post graduate students at all levels over several years. While her own research has favoured qualitative processes, she is qualified to work with quantitative and mixed methods research approaches.  She has facilitated numerous post graduate workshops in all faculties including the Humanities, Commerce, Business, Engineering, Law, and the Sciences for UCT’s Centre for Higher Education among others.  Her own research interests lie in the science of learning and teaching in higher education.
